If you experience stiffness or pain in the morning, here’s a way to better support your back and hips for a more comfortable sleep. While my own personal tried and tested 3-Pillow-System isn’t going to work for everyone, you should absolutely test it out before considering buying a new mattress or making another big change to your sleep routine.

The reason the 3-Pillow System helps you get a more comfortable sleep is that it places your back and pelvis in a neutral position while sleeping.

I use this system all the time at home and even when camping. I have a small inflatable mattress that use in the back country. While it definitely beats not having anything, I would often wake up with a very stiff back. Using a sack of clothes to mimic the three pillow system makes a huge difference to how I feel come morning when I’m backpacking or canoe tripping.
